Welcome to Central Austin

Historic tree-lined neighborhoods close to Downtown

Central Austin has a variety of attractive neighborhoods with charming tree-lined streets and real estate that includes jewel box cottages and Old Austin estates. Bordered by Lake Austin to the west and south, Tarrytown is an upscale neighborhood of elegant homes ranging from charming 1920s cottages to contemporary new construction homes.

Pemberton Heights adjoins Tarrytown across the MoPac Expressway to the southeast. Pemberton Heights is part of the Old West Austin Historic District and features refined estates, classic cottages, and other properties mostly constructed between the 1920s and ‘40s.

Bryker Woods is directly north of Pemberton Heights and east of Tarrytown. This captivating tree-shaded neighborhood features historic Colonial Revival properties, along with cozy cottages and bungalows.

Clarksville is located at the southern end of the Old West Austin Historic District right next to Downtown. Clarksville is dotted with mom ‘n’ pop stores and trendy restaurants with al fresco dining options. Its real estate offers an eclectic mix of renovated historic homes and contemporary condominiums.

Central Austin’s quiet residential vibe, spacious homes, and proximity to Downtown make it one of the city’s most sought-after areas.

Neighborhood restaurants are dotted throughout Central Austin’s communities. In Bryker Woods, stylish Italian restaurant Olive & June combines delicious dishes with wine and terrace dining. Highlights in Clarksville include French-influenced New American fine dining at Jeffrey’s and delectable seafood at Clark’s Oyster Bar. Central Austin neighborhoods are also mere minutes away from Downtown’s many shops, restaurants, and hip nightlife spots.

Mozart’s in Tarrytown is situated on Lake Austin and along with a scenic atmosphere, they offer quality coffee and homemade pastries.

Deep Eddy Pool in Eilers Park on the banks of the Colorado River has been an Austin recreation hotspot since the 1930s. This Austin institution has an adult lap pool and shallow children’s wading pool. The exquisite architecture of Old West Austin Historic District landmarks, such as the former governor’s mansion at Woodlawn, make the area a fascinating place to explore. There’s also an abundance of green space, including the Johnson’s Creek Greenbelt and the 42-acre Pease Park.
