North Central Austin neighborhoods combine residential calm and natural scenery with convenient proximity to Downtown. Northwest Hills is a scenic suburban neighborhood with majestic trees, high hills, deep canyons and homes in California Ranch, Colonial, and Texas Tuscan Villa styles.

Nestled between Northwest Hills and Tarrytown, the Balcones neighborhood is characterized by verdant greenery and spacious homes on well-manicured lots. Allandale at Northwest Hills and Balcones’ east is a community-orientated neighborhood with mid-century homes and ranch style homes.

Continuing east from Allandale, Crestview is a charming neighborhood of mid-century bungalows and new construction homes. Nearby cuisine on Burnet Road offers anything from ice cream to gourmet pizza.

North Central Austin has several shopping centers and a wide range of restaurants. Central Market has many gourmet foodstuffs, including extensive selections of meat, cheese, and seafood. There are also chef-prepared meals, a café with live music, and cooking classes. Nearby Uchiko is a chic modern eatery specializing in sushi and other Japanese-style small plates. Russell’s Bakery sells a delightful range of freshly-made cakes, breads, and pastries. The Westwood in Balcones is a gastropub combining craft cocktails with creative tapas, fresh seafood, and delicious gourmet burgers and steaks.

Art from The Contemporary Austin’s collection of modern works is exhibited at Laguna Gloria, a gorgeous 1916 Italianate Villa on the shores of Lake Austin. Other North Central Austin landmarks include Covert Park atop Mount Bonnell--the highest point in Austin that provides sweeping panoramic views over Lake Austin and the city. 106 steep steps ascend to this hilltop greenspace and the walk up is well worth it to take in the stunning Texas sunset over Lake Austin.
